Dear Year 6 Parents/carers and children of Oak class,
Welcome to our class page! Our class page will be regularly updated throughout the year with our exciting curriculum learning challenges. As this is their last school year with us at Westfield, let's make it one to remember!

OUR LEARNING JOURNEY...
Autumn Term - Topic: Vicious Vikings
Our topic 'Were the Vikings always vicious and victorious?' began with a WOW visit to Moorforge Viking Settlement.
At Moorforge we experienced what it was like to travel back in time to the Viking period and met a real-life Viking! We discovered where and how Vikings lived, how they used their weapons, went hunting and learned all about Viking religion.
We could not thank Moorforge Viking Settlement enough for the experience - we thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Autumn Term - Science: Light
During the Autumn term, we have been learning about Light. The children have enjoyed explaining how light travels and how we can see different objects. We have discussed transparent, translucent and opaque objects and used our energy transfer model to explain the light energy transferring through them.
Year 6 also visited Lakes College for an afternoon where several science experiments were demonstrated and explained, thanks to the REACT Foundation!
Autumn Term - Mental Health Week
During Mental Health week, some Year 6 children were chosen as mental health ambassadors. Children enjoyed a coffee afternoon with their families, some mindful colouring activities and began spending time in the library where we could do various activities!
Autumn Term - PE: Benchball
This term in PE we have been working with Ross to develop our skills used when playing benchball!
